The Parish of St Augustine’s, Victor Harbor supports the ministry of the Church of the Ascension by providing funds to purchase food for Indigenous people seeking assistance at the Rectory.
As a way of focussing on their giving, the parishioners at St Augustine's have imagined a giant beanstalk that is growing from Victor Harbor to Alice Springs. They have undertaken to raise $1 for each of the 1500 kilometres between the two locations.
Since 2005, a small group of young professionals from the Parish of St John’s, Diamond Creek have been coming to Alice Springs each year to work with Indigenous children and young people in the mid-year school break. Under the leadership of Ben Smith, the group has been working with a local Indigenous organisation to provide activities within their holiday program. This initial endeavour is developing into a broader partnership between the two parishes.
In 2008 a large consignment of goods was gratefully received from generous parishioners of Marysville for distribution to the needy of Alice Springs. Following the devastating bushfires earlier in 2009, the people of the Church of the Ascension have sought to help the Parish of Marysville as they reconstruct their community and parish life by providing ongoing financial and prayer support.
